Or worse.

[A terse if somewhat raw reply. And, oh, he is amenable (perhaps to a rather startling degree). Consider his curiosity piqued, and (he should like not to admit) a number of other things as well. His flesh yearns to draw Hythlodaeus closer, and each little reaction sparks something within him, too. It builds upon itself until his very soul feels afflicted and feverish.]

[Hades has no true notion of what he's getting himself into, and that, he thinks, is somehow, inexplicably the best part. He knows only who he's getting into it with, and he suspects if he had known this an age ago, he scarce would have believed it.]

[When Hythlodaeus at last leans back to begin searching about for his lost mask, so too does Hades take the opportunity to affix the mark of Emet-Selch back upon his own face - pausing only to pluck a leaf from one of the eye holes which he extends wordlessly between two fingers. It's quite a lovely specimen, actually. A deep crimson color, fan-shaped and translucent with an ornate pattern of veins spreading throughout it from one point to the next.]

And, yes, you will be. I didn't think that particular detail was in question. Unless you've some other truth you wish to share? ...all of which, I assure you, we can settle once we've left this place.

[He's not about to take his chances with Hythlodaeus becoming distracted and teleporting himself accidentally into lava next time, and so, Hades will prove all too willing to take over that task himself (and indeed, for at least a week afterwards). And so it is that once the mask is properly retrieved, he shall usher them back to where this night began, safe from prying eyes, with a crisp snap of his fingers.]

[Sentimental? Well, perhaps.]

[And yet it feels as if it is exactly the right thing to give, for there seems no end to Hythlodaeus' affection. It's a far cry from what he was forced to endure earlier, and as they safely materialize in Hythlodaeus' apartment, Hades can scarce believe that only a few hours have passed. It is now quite late, to be sure, but somehow this is the same night which was first begun quipping about work and discussing Marberry's merits in particular.]

Our sleeping arrangements? How so?

[The comment has Hades quirking an eyebrow, and then he is being led like a child learning to walk for the first time. Past the familiar guest quarters (which has him frowning), and further down the corridor to a room he's never before entered. The master suite, he realizes with a growing sense of bafflement as his head slowly turns to take in the well-appointed space. The bed, in particular, is a massive thing, and quite luxurious from the looks of it. Yet that does not explain why he is here.]

[Unless...]

[His mouth works silently for a moment, and then his chin jerks back as he stares a his companion in what may be mild shock.]

And what, pray tell, are you insisting upon? Surely you don't think I'd be so crude and unchivalrous!

[He agreed to a relationship, not an affair! And though he certainly isn't pulling his hand away, it's clear from the sideways tilt of his head and the almost jumpy current which unsettles his aether that Hades has some rather pointed reservations about this. To be sure, the only reason anyone has ever led him thus was for one simple reason of a most carnal nature. But not within the first hour of their arrangement!]

[Attraction and history aside, he would not think so little of him as to leap immediately to the finish without first going through the proper steps! There's an order to these matters - a progression, which like all things must be carefully cultivated.]

Sleeping beside each other...?

[Now it's his turn to appear utterly perplexed, although any visible quavering within his soul is fairly quick to sputter out after that, replaced by a muted and steady thrum as he looks again from Hythlodaeus to the bed, and back again to Hythlodaeus as he fetches a change of clothes - one undoubtedly free of any glass granules.]

And I should certainly hope not. But for what other reason would one expect to be led into someone's private chamber? A sleepover gathering is hardly the first thing which comes to mind!

For here I was under the impression that only children took part in such things.

[How, he wonders, would he even be able to consider sleep next to Hythlodaeus? Especially now that he knows what he does, and most especially now that they have each stepped a respective toe over the line from friends into a potential for something more.]

[He stares down at the garments as if they're a coiled snake. What Hythlodaeus is insisting isn't the worst thing in the world, no, but it's still quite boggling to him. He's never shared a bed before simply for the sake of sharing it.]

...yet you're saying this is a regular occurrence?

Clearly. There are those of us, after all, who appreciate being allowed some personal space.

[Hades' brow furrows again as his gaze lingers on the bed, and he exhales long and quiet through his nose. Despite what an oddity it is to him yet, he is beginning to see why a different approach exists. Hythlodaeus has always been much the opposite, for example - friendly, cheerful, and occasionally hovering, not hesitating to flit in and out of his space bubble, nor to reach out and make contact. Where he finds relief in those moments alone, perhaps Hythlodaeus instead seeks comfort in company. It makes sense. He can scarce imagine his friend being happy all by his lonesome. And had that not been why he had made so many visits to see Hythlodaeus following this last severance?]

[Indeed is he being earnest, though he suspects Hythlodaeus is doing all he can not to needle him further about it. Hades head turns back in his direction, and he frowns again - or he would, if he didn't find himself quite suddenly and quite intensely distracted. Hades had thought that hair beautiful before when woven into a loose braid, but now it has been teased out into thick lilac waves which fairly shine, and he catches a faint, sweet whiff of what can only be some manner of floral extract.]

[This creature... this man surely cannot be real.]

[Hades huffs, clutching the change of dress more closely to his chest so they cannot be retracted.]

Honestly...! I do hope you weren't expecting a cuddling partner. If so, then I suspect you will be sorely disappointed. I've never been known for such things.

...That being said, I don't recall saying I wouldn't at least attempt to indulge your whims.

If I'm not asleep within the hour, I'll simply retire to the guest quarters.
Does that suit?

I was wondering when you'd use that icon.

[In fact, it does strike him as surprising - enough for him to raise an eyebrow perceptibly above the upper edge of his mask. Perhaps even "affectionate" individuals have their limits when it comes to closeness. Interesting. But instead of saying something sarcastic by way of response, Hades only nods.]

Really? I wouldn't have guessed.

[This next little adventure is also something Hades could not have guessed. It's one thing to see the other hoodless, their faces revealed in private as an unexpected and brief exception of the norm, but it's quite another for Hythlodaeus to remove his own robe as if it's nothing. All when he remains standing right here, right here watching for a moment before his mind can catch up to--]

[Ahem.]

[Hades doesn't fluster so much as he looks away (slowly, politely) with a pointed clearing of his throat. Of this, too, he wonders whether it is normal or if Hythlodaeus is now simply toying with him. His decision is made easily enough, for he certainly isn't prepared to give Hythlodaeus something worth watching. He has his decency, after all.]

Yes, well. With that decided, I will see you in but a moment.

[Hades offers a half shrug as he leaves with the sleeping garments and his privacy. He does not rush, but neither does he take overly long as he reemerges with them on. Hythlodaeus' judgment is mostly right - they fit him well, though the robe is a bit more snug across the shoulders than his daily dress. His mask is still in place, but his pure white hair has been fished from his hood and left loose to ripple and curl down to the small of his back.]

[Already this is singularly the strangest night he's ever experienced, and with a dramatic sigh he trudges over to the bed and sinks down on the edge with his arms crossed.]

There. Now are you happy?

I wasn't intending to.

[A terse reply as Hades' obscured gaze travels down the length of his nose to take Hythlodaeus in again, hovering there just beyond his shoulder. The angelic face marred only by the unmistakable glint of mischief in those laughing eyes, the soft curve of a full mouth. Here in better light he can truly appreciate the healthy glow of his skin and... it certainly doesn't hurt that he's been gifted with a generous view of the planes and curves of his upper torso flowing together over quite a finely sculpted structure of bones.]

[There is simply no denying that the man is beautiful, objectively. Subjectively, all of these new little discoveries are still searching for places to settle, to make themselves real. ...Yet that doesn't mean he would refuse to explore this topic further in the meantime.]

[Just the barest brush of those lips against his neck has his flesh tingling in the most pleasant sort of way, and Hades exhales carefully.]

...remain as I was, that is. You failed to mention which side of the bed you typically rest upon.

[He could prolong this, he knows. He gets the distinct feeling that if he does recline here, he won't be getting up again for some time (though whether that is because he wishes stay or whether exhaustion finally claims him yet remains to be seen.) Regardless, he makes up his mind to cooperate. It is, after all, only an hour. And so, should Hythlodaeus attempt that again, he will indeed find Hades shifting towards him, just enough so that he can angle his head to press a kiss against the side of his mouth.]

[What Hythlodaeus thought he had witnessed is neither more nor less than the truth. This affects him, and beneath the outward wall of stubbornness and (yes) rigidity, something stirs. Emotion, feeling. A nervous little twitch that is just as much anticipation as it is a natural response to having his evening and his night turned completely upside down.]

[Although he could succumb to the newness of his surroundings, the awkwardness with which he must navigate this new chapter of their shared history, Hades always was one with an ability to adapt in the moment.]

[Any real inquiries he might have are already answered. Oh yes, he can almost imagine it in the patient urging, in lips that linger against his and fingers daring to tangle themselves into his hair. He can imagine them all as Hythlodaeus saying something like this: Relax, Hades. Why don't you give it a try and see if it doesn't agree with you?]

[Well then, why doesn't he?]

[Hades is almost ready for him this time, though Hythlodaeus clearly needs no encouragement. It takes a couple of tries, but Hades determines on the third exactly how to tilt his head so that his mask won't hinder them. One hand anchors him, supporting his weight against the mattress, and the other rises to the side of Hythlodaeus' face, tilting his jaw by the barest fraction needed to return that kiss fully.]

[He doesn't rush this; he doesn't balk at the nearness or interrupt them with his usual string of muttered complaints. In fact, he offers no commentary at all, only a slow and considered exhale when Hythlodaeus does see fit to withdraw.]

Why ask now? You've scarcely given me so much as a warning in the past when you've encroached upon my territory - and that during broad daylight, I might add.

[He's still sore about earlier, it seems. Both literally and figuratively.]

Shall I then take this as a warning that I should be prepared to awaken with you draped across my shoulders and your face buried in the pillow next to mine? Or perhaps I should create a safety net should you remain on the bed and I, as an unfortunate victim, be cast over the edge.

[He snorts softly, turning his head away to make Hythlodaeus' chore even more difficult to complete. If his reflexes aren't quick enough, he might also find his hand glancing against Hades' cheek. If not, he'd likely find another errant strand sliding down over the opposite shoulder.]

...I presume this goes equally for yourself?

[Not that Hades would ever invade Hythlodaeus' personal space... Or, no. Perhaps he shouldn't make such a claim. After all, there are ample number of temptations hovering before his eyes at this very moment.]

Well, so much for me getting a peaceful night's rest. Are you already so eager as to disrupt my sleep at every opportunity? I grow weary just thinking of how often I'll be readjusting you elsewhere.

[Hades sighs even as he is encouraged to recline, just pronounced enough to make it obvious that he is doing Hythlodaeus a favor and that he should be grateful for the exertion.]

[And yet the half of it is simply a reaction to the newness of it all. He would argue that there's nothing remarkable about any of this, but perhaps that assertion rings false. Perhaps he is only hedging because he knows those eyes, those lips, and those questing fingers all have the potential and the power to undo him utterly. So soon, and already he possesses that much awareness.]

[Were he a less stubborn man, he'd surely be leaning into that touch, catching that delicate wrist and pressing both his cheek and his mouth against the back of that hand. Yet Hades is not so easy, nor is he so open. At least, not at this early stage. Yet he does accept such attentions, he does watch, and he does feel in the same way as before, as if he might shiver out of his own flesh if such affections go on for too long.]

[At length, Hades settles with his back cradled into the mattress. It is firm, but comfortable; supportive. There is more than ample room for both of them, and at least two more besides, and even with his stature, there's plenty of unused space between his toes and the edge of the bed. It isn't his, yet he doesn't find it wanting in any regard. At last, he speaks plainly.]

You needn't fret over such things. As long as it's peaceful and quiet, I can make myself comfortable anywhere.

[A quiet exhale, and because he knows it will happen eventually anyway, Hades nudges Hythlodaeus with his arm.]

Besides, you're more than aware that I'd never ignore anything which didn't meet my standards. Your bed, as it happens, is lavish to an almost insulting degree.
